Demi Lovato is done listening to the haters! The 19-year-old "Skyscraper" singer, who has been open about her struggle with eating disorders, looked curvy, confident and healthy at the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday night. But as a famous female, Lovato still has to live with constant criticism of her body. During the awards ceremony, the singer discovered she was a trending topic on Twitter -- with much of the discussion focused on her weight. Fortunately, Lovato's response shows that she's stronger than her critics.
Perhaps Lovato was checking her phone during commercial breaks when she noticed the obnoxious Twitter comments -- like the follower who decided to inform her that her "arms were looking a tad bit chunky." (What, did she expect a 'thank you'?) The singer immediately snapped back a very appropriate "Who cares?"
She followed that with a message to all the haters: "I've gained weight. Get over it. That's what happens when you get out of treatment for AN EATING DISORDER."
Seriously! But Lovato soon thought better of showing her anger, and replaced that message with a more diplomatic tweet: "Guess what, I'm healthy and happy, and if you're hating on my weight you obviously aren't. :) #UNBROKEN."
The former Disney star was clearly annoyed, but didn't let it ruin her good time at the VMAs. And she even got some support from a surprising source: Ashley Greene, who was rumored to be at odds with Lovato when she was dating their now-mutual ex-boyfriend Joe Jonas. The Twilight actress tweeted the message "Girl... your beautiful," to which Lovato responded, "This is why you're my friend... Thank you girl." Lovato also sent an appreciative tweet to all the fans who sent her messages of love and support.
For what it's worth, Demi Lovato made our list of the best-dressed at the VMAs. But a person could go crazy trying to please everyone all the time -- and if that's something she learned from her months in rehab, then it was time well-spent.
