A new Toy Story movie already? It was just last year that Toy Story 3 finished off the trilogy that began in 1995. (It also finished off all the tissue boxes in our house. Seriously, who can watch that movie without crying?) The 2011 film was such a hit that there's been talk of a fourth installment -- and, while that's still a rumor, Buzz and Woody fans will be pleased to learn that a new Toy Story short is coming to theaters in November!
On Friday, Pixar announced that a Toy Story "toon" will premiere along with the upcoming feature The Muppets, in theaters Nov. 23. Called Small Fry, the mini-film begins when Bonnie (the little girl who inherited the toys from Andy at the end of Toy Story 3) accidentally leaves Buzz Lightyear at a fast food restaurant, confusing him with a kids'-meal toy. Buzz is trying to find his way home, when -- according to the Huffington Post -- he encounters "a support group for lost kids' meals toys, led by a mermaid warrior who is voiced by Jane Lynch." Sue Sylvester vs. Buzz Lightyear? That sounds amazing!
The new Toy Story film wasn't Pixar's only news this weekend. At the D23 Expo on Saturday, the beloved Disney animation company announced two upcoming feature films. The first, scheduled for the 2013 holidays, is about a world where dinosaurs never went extinct, and have instead lived and evolved along with people. The other has the working title Untitled Pixar Movie that You See Inside the Brain. The story, says director Pete Docter (who also helmed Up), will take audiences inside the human brain, "a place that we've all been to but have never seen." Intriguing! That one is slated for May 2013. A third movie has already been announced for June 2013: Monsters University, the prequel to 2001's Monsters Inc.
Until then, Pixar fans can look forward to the next feature film, Brave, the story of a Scottish warrior princess. The film is supposed to be a little more grown-up than the studio's previous family films. And, more importantly, it's the first Pixar movie to feature a female protagonist -- a redhead, no less!
And what about the rumored Toy Story 4? Tom Hanks spilled the beans this June that they were talking about a fourth film. And Pixar CEO John Lasseter is being just cagey enough to make us think that it's really happening. We're all for it, but we have one suggestion: now that Brave has broken the glass ceiling, can Jessie get the starring role?
